The Kamniška Bistrica river spring The upper stream of the Kamniška Bistrica is one of the cleanest in Slovenia, from it the Kamnik's water supply also branches out. The Kamniška Bistrica is a river with a typical Karst spring. The water comes to the surface from beneath rocks, covered with moss, and stops for a short time in an artificial lake next to the mountain hut in Kamniška Bistrica. Tired hikers and mountaineers often rest and refresh themselves along the lake, where the mountain hut "Dom in Kamniška Bistrica" is also located.
Veliki in Mali Predaselj (two gorges) Veliki and Mali Predaselj are located at the narrowest section of Kamniška Bistrica riverbed. In the upper stream, Kamniška Bistrica cut into the stone an extremely narrow riverbed. It is at its deepest at Veliki (30 m) and Mali Predaselj (approx. 15 m). A rock is wedged above the riverbed, creating a natural bridge. This natural monument is located less than a kilometre before the Mountain hut in Kamniška Bistrica.
Waterfall Orglice (Orličje) is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Kamniška Bistrica valley.According to some, the waterfall was named because of the eagles (orli) nesting in the Kamniška Bela valley; according to others, in high waters, the waterfall sounds like someone is playing the harmonica (orglice). The waterfall is 30 m high, it may be reached from Predbela, which is the starting point for the hike up to Ojstrica.
Kamniška jama (cave) Visit the largest horizontal cave in Kamniško – Savinjske Alps, which is extremely rich with aragonite urchins – a very rare and small cave form. The cave consists of four parts: eastern part, main pit, bottom part and pit Za slapom. Bone remains of a cave bear, marten and bats were all found in the cave. The discovery of a new species of bug, which was named after Kamnik - Aphaenopidius Kamnikensis Drovenik, is considered as the most important find. The cave may be visited upon prior arrangement with Kamniško jamarsko društvo (caving club).
Korošaški slapovi (waterfalls)
The Korošak stream, which runs on the slope of Kamniški vrh, created at least 9 waterfalls and cascades. They are spread on altitudes between 730 and 1050 m. The highest waterfall is 20 m high. The waterfalls are less known and consequently also less visited; thus, they could be considered as a secret corner, where lovers of peaceful nature come. If you have enough time, the climb past the waterfalls to Kamniški vrh is worth it.
Jespa Jespa is a typical Karst form, found on Menina planina. It was formed by a slip of a cave ceiling, which is professionally referred to as a sink. A path leads to its base (approximately 30 m). Due to the temperature inversion, the air begins to cool quickly and noticeably during the descent. As a consequence, a vegetation inversion also occurs. This is manifested by mosses and lichen, usually found in highlands, flourishing at its base. Snow and ice also remain at its base through the entire year.
